Solve the cube one layer at a time, from top to bottom. Seven steps, and only a few short move sequences to remember.
Tap any R U R' U' to watch it played on your cube. Moves follow the side that's facing you.
Controls
- Turn a layer: press on the cube and swipe along a row or column.
- Look around: drag on the empty space around the cube.
- Buttons: open Moves to turn faces with taps.
- Keyboard: U D R L F B turn faces (hold Shift for counter-clockwise), Ctrl+Z undoes.
Reading the moves
Each letter names a face as you look at the cube:
- F
- Front, facing you
- B
- Back
- U
- Up, the top
- D
- Down, the bottom
- R
- Right
- L
- Left
A letter on its own is a quarter turn clockwise, as if you were looking straight at that face. A ′ means counter-clockwise, and a 2 means turn it twice.
1White cross
Put the white center on top. Bring the four white edge pieces up around it to make a white plus sign.
The second color on each edge has to match the center below it. If a white edge is in the bottom layer, turn the bottom until it sits under its matching center, then turn that side twice:
There's no fixed sequence for this step. Experiment; it gets easier fast.
2White corners
Turn the cube over so the white cross is on the bottom.
Find a corner with white on it in the top layer. Turn the top until that corner sits directly above its slot, at the front-right. Repeat this until it drops in with white facing down:
It takes 1, 3 or 5 repeats. Do the same for all four corners and the first layer is done.
3Middle layer
Find an edge in the top layer with no yellow. Turn the top until its front color lines up with the front center.
If its top color matches the right center:
If it matches the left center:
An edge stuck the wrong way round in the middle? Run either sequence once to lift it out, then insert it properly.
4Yellow cross
Yellow is now on top. Look only at the yellow edges and find your shape:
Hold the L so it points back and left, or the line so it runs left to right, then:
Repeat until you have the cross: dot, then L, then line, then cross.
5Match the yellow edges
Turn the top until at least two yellow edges match the centers below them.
If the two matching edges sit next to each other, hold them at the back and right:
If they're opposite, run it once from any side; you'll then have a neighbouring pair to fix.
6Place the yellow corners
A corner is in place when it sits between its three colors, even if it's twisted. Hold one that's in place at the front-right-top:
Repeat until all four are in place. If none are, run it once from anywhere first.
7Twist the yellow corners
Keep yellow on top with an unfinished corner at the front-right-top. Repeat this until that corner shows yellow on top (2 or 4 times):
Then turn only the top to bring the next unfinished corner to the front-right, and repeat. Don't turn the whole cube during this step.
The lower layers look scrambled while you do this. That's normal; they come back once the last corner is twisted.
Line up the top layer, and you've solved it.
